Dit zout is een vulkanisch steenzout. Een zwavelverbinding met 98% NaCl en sporen van calcium, magnesium en ijzer!
Men strooit zwart zout meestal over hapjes en voorafjes. Inhoud: 10gram. Sample Kala Namak, India 10gram. Indian Black Salt, Nirav Black Salt, Sanchal or Kala Namak is a special type of Indian mineral salt. Black Salt is used in Indian cuisine as a condiment and is added to chats, chutneys, raitas, salads, seafood and many other (deep-fried) savoury Indian snacks. Contains: 10gram.
Daarom ruikt en smaakt zwart zout als gekookte eieren met ui.
Men wint het zout uit ondergrondse afzettingen in Midden-India, Pakistan en Afghanistan.
In zijn natuurlijke vorm is het bruinzwart. Nadat de kristallen zijn gemalen, de vorm waarin het zout meestal wordt verkocht, is het mengsel lichtroze van kleur.
Het specerijen mengsel chat masala, dat voorkomt in lichte salades die men chat noemt, bevat van oudsher zwart zout.
Het wordt gebruikt in fruitsalades, op banaan en appel. In yoghurt met komkommer en tomaat. (raitas)

Kala Namak is an earth salt, not a Sea salt, it is mined in central India.
It is actually a volcanic, rock salt or “saindhav”.
These colours come from the presence of trace minerals and iron.
This “Black Salt” is not really black, actually more pink grey rather than black and has a very distinctive sulphurous mineral taste (like hard boiled eggs).
This salt has a strong sulphur taste and smell that somewhat dissipates upon cooking.
It is used extensively in Indian cuisine.
This salt has become popular with vegetarian chefs for adding natural egg flavour to their dishes. Pink with a powdery texture!
